How to Reach Happiness

Don't go when in a bad mood. Go when the sun is shining
and the wet dew still fills the morning air. Look up
through the trees of the forest to the rich blue sky
lined with sweet stripes of white.
Close your eyes. Spin around and imagine paradise.
Think of something you love as you spin around
on the soft earth; twigs and fresh crisp grass cracking
beneath your feet. Untie the least to your mind.
Let it wander as far as it wants to go.
That is how you reach true happiness.

by Jeremy West, a Border Voices poet

Grade 7, Tri-City Christian Home School
